Change & The Philosophy Of Carry Over

I recently made moves to change things up with my business. The gym I independently train at has changed in ways I don’t like, and I decided I needed to switch gears to keep quality up for my athletes.

The Emotional Challenge

This has been difficult, to say the least. I love this gym. It helped me start a business, it was my getaway when life was incredibly hard, and it was a reason to move back to Chicago. To say it played a small part in who I am now would be a joke of an understatement.

But it’s fallen behind in what I want and need, and squeaky wheels get the grease, so I’m switching places.

A New Training Philosophy

Maybe somewhat serendipitously, I’ve begun training differently too. I felt stagnant in the same training I had been doing and began moving things differently. I still enjoy strength training and growing muscle, but I wanted to build up endurance – and not just simply running endurance, but something with a nice carry over to life. So I began doing martial arts. The cardio boost has been unbelievable and it’s helped confidence levels outside the gym too.

A nice carry over.

Overcoming the Challenges of Change

It hasn’t been easy. With change comes a lot of nerves that I’m not expecting, but it’s good to challenge yourself in this manner. The new place should be great. It plays into this new philosophy of training I have (not the martial arts part, but the carry over and new challenges part), and the environment seems like one that I could grow quite well in.

But walking away from my heart hurts. But my heart isn’t what it used to be, and I want to improve my cardio, so challenge my heart I must.

Carry over all around
